MA LIBERTE A CAIRN

Gwylene Gallimard, in Document édité par la Coopérative CAIRN, 1st quarter 1977

CAIRN, an artists-run cooperative created in 1975 in Paris, organized over twenty five exhibitions, created an edition of silkscrens, developed video works and published catalogues and a magazine (10 issues). CAIRN challenged criteria of selection. There was no selection based on aesthetic or biographical criteria. From twelve to twenty members rented a space together that served as a gallery and a collective studio. CAIRN also challenged the way French critics and the field in general were talking about art. The magazine was written, fabricated and promoted by CAIRN members. Today, a few members still meet every year in France and engage in lengthy conversations about their own journey as artists.
